You could also use this ::
words=["hi","bye"]
hi=words[0]
bye=words[1]
words=[]
Hi=[]
Bye=[]
for letter in hi:
Hi.append(letter)
for letter in bye:
Bye.append(letter)
words=[Hi,Bye]
print(words)
