I'm not sure where the logical conflict is in your statement. If the BIOS is stored in one spot (ROM) and the information that the BIOS collects is stored in another spot (CMOS), I'm not sure this indicates that a CMOS is a ROM.

That being said, I can still empathize with your general confusion. The community at large doesn't use the ROM (vs PROM vs EPROM vs EEPROM) terminology consistently. Some use ROM as an umbrella term for all things that end in ROM, while others insist that each category is distinct. Most seem to steer away from engaging in the debate by avoiding any attempt at explaining the relationship but also choose not to explain the disagreement.

I'm not sure if I can think of a great analogy, but if we didn't have scientists that were so committed to classifying species, we non-scientists might still be running around wondering if zebras and donkeys are horses (or if each of those are their own type of thing).

At any rate, I think it's more important to understand what each does.

ROM is more of a designation. CMOS is a chip technology. Although Quora is not generally the best place to get answers, I think for this question it might be okay, so you can read more about it here:

ok guys but iam watching a course on youtube ....he said in the first video that the information wich bios collect about hardware is stored in cmos....and in the 9th video he said that the bios stored in rom...how....can any one explain this to me?!
