game devs don't make as much as regular devs. I think you should do freelance for regular programs, and use that as experience and funds to build your games until you can get off the ground with multiple releases. Btw, marketing is very important for a game. Otherwise, you'll likely end up with barely anyone buying or playing it. In some cases, game devs end up with no one playing their hard work. This is assuming you're going solo. Some indie studios could improve your chance, but you'll have to make sure their past games were successful. professional game studios will work you to the bone and won't pay as much as regular dev, because everyone wants to make games.

Game developer if you want to create, web developer if you want money.

What about Scientific Computing? Data Science? Machine Learning? Analytics? Don't forget about that potential career path. Can be very lucrative. Average Data Science salary is around $120k right now.

Whatever you start with, aim to be a good developer first. Choose jobs where you can keep learning and stay on top of latest technologies. Then you will be in a better position to change depending on what interests motivates you most at the time , or if you need to go for better money.

I'd say explore a bit and see what you like more firsthand. You should always start by approaching CS and programming as a hobby anyways. You may find you're like me and cannot stand web dev. Or you may find game dev not very rewarding compared to the very strenuous working conditions game devs have to put up with.
