PHP is used for back-end website development, or basically all the hidden functions (sort of). Python is used for a wide range (mostly data analytics) and is easy to learn. Python is easy to learn and is a good stepping stone to get to the rigour of other languages.

Depends on what you want to do. For Data Science, learn Python and R programming. These are hot these days and for a few years to come. PHP was hot in the last decade but its still very widely used on the web: Wordpress and some other popular CMS (content management systems) are still using PHP. Its a good one to learn. Perl is another good web scripting language for your toolset. if you’re just starting out, my advice is get really good at one language but learn as many others as you can to get exposure to many styles. and dont forget to have fun learning and coding.
