I guess there is no upper bound for earnings. You could do contract work which brings big money, you could start your own business which is limitless.

It's a better idea to just become an expert in one language to begin with and learn the common practices/principles that are applicable to programming in general.

learning a new language after that is essentially learning new syntax and libraries.
