here are my steps to learning programming concepts:

1- learn concept [example: a for loop]

2- run the concept as code to see the output

3- modify the code and examine how it changes the result [example: adding things to an array x amount of times]

4- make something semi useful with what you've learned [example: for loop through a data set like baseball teams and arrange an array from most wins to least]
