For starters, you can follow some good complete set of tutorials or read some ebooks (if you like reading). Normally they do come with sample projects. Once you get the hang of it, try create your own project using the concept you just learn with your own ideas. If you are stuck, there's always the Google Master and the community of coders to help you around.
