Difference between Front-end and Back-end?

It is a matter of what you see and what you don't see on the Internet.
- There's the frontend : all the code, calculations and command that are responsible for what you see on your browser/application (as Jay said, like HTML, CSS and JavaScript)
- There's the backend : all the instructions and data necessary to get what you see are stored somewhere on the server and it is managed by backend technologies for : the data stored (like MySQL) and the instructions on how to use/manage it and bring it to your browser (PHP, Javascript, ...)
