Eclipse is also android studio type of software with different user interface design...it also uses C# for coding.....so ... answer is NO if you want to code for yourself.. otherwise if you're noob and want to develop your app you can just go Google for some websites which offers live app making for free..i.e. appgeyser.com...

There are couple of IDEs (Integrated Development Environments ) i know which can be used for same purpose as that of android studio 1. Intellij Idea is pretty similar to android studio and can be used for android app development (there is a plugin i think which you might have to install ). 2. Eclipse is another IDE i have heard of but do not recommend as many libraries have stopped providing support for eclipse(realm being one of them). In my opinion, after having experience in developing apps using android studio over a year now, I believe its the best IDE one must go for considering how smart the IDE is and the wide range of shortcuts it has to offer.

In my opinion Android Studio is the best for apps, but you can check Unity (a game engine) that isn't good for normal apps but may be good for games, non-static apps and AR stuffs
