I routinely develop in over 10 different programming languages. I generally use Python when I’m working on data processing problems, especially big data. Using Python for Map Reduce on Hadoop or Custom UDFs on Hive is very light weight, easy to read, and powerful. Although Python can be used to build GUI based applications and web apps, I generally use it to build processes that are designed to run without human interaction.
