Can a challenge expire in 4 hours?

4 hours ago someone challenged me in HTML. I could answer now, but I see the challenge has expired. (If I'm not mistaken the challenge usually expires in 24 hours.) In 4 hours how is it possible?

I would guess the time difference between countries.
Or opponent started the challenge 20 hours before, but finished 4 hours before.

In my case a challenge expired less than 15 minutes after I received it. Seb TheS and ⚡Prometheus ⚡ 's answers make sense.

Maybe someone opened (but not started) the challenge, left it hanging for 44 hours, then started, completed and sent it to you. That's why.

I don't know if it still works, but in the past it was possible to open a challenge. Finish 2 or 3 questions, and stop the quiz. A day later or so, the time had started running, you could finish the last questions. Then your opponent had little time left to respond.

Seb TheS I don't know. The challenger is from Nigeria and I'm from Hungary. I'm sure the challenge was not there before. 24 hours before definitely not.

Paul Jacobs But the guy challenged me, so I think he finished the challenge - or I would not have seen it.
