I enjoyed Mark Myers' books "Smarter Way to Learn JavaScript" and "Smarter Way to Learn HTML/CSS". He built websites that quiz you on the material as you go along in the books and upon completion, he sends a certificate.

You can also try Gordon Zhu's Practical JavaScript. A substantial introduction lesson is free, complete with a certificate. If you decide you like the first course, you can try his $40 monthly offer. Gordon has a lot of videos in his lessons. The free option and I imagine the paid one too.
