If I had to master just one language, which one should it be?

I want to master one language completely. A language that will help me land a job, a language that's difficult yet rewarding, something which is demand and not a lot of people are already doing it. Something that I can use in everything from web developer to machine learning to API development. SIDENOTE: Is it a good idea to master just one language? Because knowing many languages and mastering none seems like a bad idea.

The one you like the most or the one you need the most. And focus on a general-purpose programming language that meets your interests!

When someone talks about a general purpose language, the one that comes to mind is C. If you master C, everything else will be easier.
