Microsoft Virtual Academy has many great text resources and videos for learning. However since this is from Microsoft they will only have programming courses centered around C#, .NET, XML, and other Microsoft languages.
Even if you're not interested in these languages they can teach you the fundamentals that apply to all coding languages.
If you are serious for coding as a career they also offer certification exams which will verify your knowledge to potential employers, but you must pay to take the exams.
Many other companies offer similar certifications you'll need to do research to see what you want to learn and from where.

@Vj, yeah challenges will at least be more thorough over there.
Read a Forbes article in favour of it, but to find work it would seem one's github account is paramount.

codeacademy.com
It has lots of great step by step tutorials on a range of languages. I believe they are starting to become accredited which means their certificates would make you employable.

@Leon hackerrank is not really a tutorial site(though it has tutorials for java and and a few other stuffs too). It's basically for practicing your coding as well as to compete with other people around the world. Also, it provides job/internship opportunities for top rankers (What else do we want, ha!). Honestly, your choice totally depends on what kind of learner you are!
ps- I Love both of them ;)
