C# inherits a rich programming legacy. It is directly descended from two of the world’s most successful computer languages: C and C++. It is closely related to another: Java. Understanding the nature of these relationships is crucial to understanding C#.

C# is also a leading note to D, C# being part of the tension, D being the release. So see here where C# was aiming for all the time. (And yeah, I'm making this up.) https://dlang.org/

Jay Matthews, and to modulate from C flat to C sharp on a concert harp you need footwork like a boxer. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9NOQqCzbw1w (And why stop when it's so much fun? 😂)

If you play music you would understand that a # symbol signal that the key to play is half a notation from the base key, for example C# is a key between C and D : ) Maybe MS was trying to say that C# is "more" than C or C++; by adding that # after the letter 'C', a speculative perspective though, might wanna search the net for more definitive reason for the name.
