Depending on your level, the following can happen:

- If your opponent greatly outranks you in terms of XP, and you lose, you will still recieve a small amount of XP. If you would recieve 32 XP from winning, you get some by losing

- If you and your opponent are about equally matched, you will lose a small amount of XP

- If you greatly outmatch your opponent, where you only get 1 or 2 XPs from challenging them, you will lose a disastrous amount of XP
