Does anyone know if Huawei's new operating system is based on Android or Unix?
Anyone with insider knowledge? 😉

Huawei EMUI is a custom mobile operating system that is based on Android that Huawei uses on most Huawei and Honor-branded smartphone devices.
Also, Android is based on a modified version of the Linux kernel and other open source software, and is designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.

Calviղ the Blackberry 10 OS is based on QNX, a UNIX based OS.

It's Android.
I've never seen any phones in this world run on Unix.

Nup. Latest I heard is the US backed down on the ban on US firms selling tech to Huawei. So my guess is Android, but who knows. They might roll their own as a contingency plan as tensions are still high at present and maybe for the foreseeable future.

Huawei says it is a brand new microkernel operating system.
QNX is also a microkernel operating system.
Several respondents here have incorrectly asserted that QNX is a version of UNIX. UNIX, Linux, and so also android and chromeos use a more traditional monolithic kernel - not a microkernel
QNX is POSIX compliant - not the same thing as derived from UNIX
