BASIC is Died?? Why no BASIC language is included in Sololearn
BASIC is one of the famous languages. But no inclusion of any versions of basic is there in sololearn. Does it indicate no more use of BASIC in today's life. If it has died why is it so

AgentSmith I think you're referring to .NET replacing Visual Basic 6. As you likely know, the .NET Framework supports multiple languages, including C# and VB.NET.
Also, just a jab at Java because that's what I do when given a chance... 😜 C# wasn't on par with Java... It was and continues to be a much richer and more modern version of Java. 😉
DISCLAIMER: I'm intentionally speaking from personal opinion and preference. Also, I'm not stating that Java is less capable than C#... it's just like how a 1988 Honda Civic Hatchback is just as capable as a 2019 BMW M4 Convertible is at driving from point A to point B. But, one certainly is more enjoyable than the other. 😂😅🤣

Because SoloLearn is too busy to bother with something as BASIC as that...........just kidding check out all the other cool answers 😆

@David
lol You're absolutely correct. :D I haven't kept up with anything BASIC/VB related in nearly 2 decades, so gave it my best guess based upon my memory.
I use C# significantly more than Java and enjoy it better, but I know that jab is hurting someone reading this conversation. lol :D
@Jamie
I know 😜 We've had this conversation a couple of years ago, so I'm poking at you because you couldn't resist showing up for this convo. lolol

Brian You sir... are a better man than I. 😜
There was a time when I would have worked on such legacy applications at a much, much, much higher premium than the very high premium I was already commanding at the time. As the months go by, I would feel the very essence of my soul slowly being drained until I was nothing more than an empty shell that was merely a shadow of the software engineer I really am. 😳
I couldn't do it anymore. There came a point where the income no longer mattered as much as my quality of life. 😉

WHAT!!!! that's an ancient language meant for beginners, and am not sure even if people use it anymore and if they do it might not be able to solve modern days problems

@Asterisk
Dang... I guess I need to return my "I'm Visually Basic" T-shirt that I bought. :(

I stopped use Basic 20 years ago, does it still exist?

To the best of my knowledge, they stopped support for it a long time ago. lol If I recall, C# replaced it so that it was more modern and on par with Java.
Don't quote me though because I'm just speaking from memory. I'm sure Google can answer it better.

There are still companies using various dialects of BASIC as a primary development language for significant industrial and business applications. I am one the few still willing to support their legacy. Though I do my best to hide it on my resume. There is a stigma associated with declaring professional experience in BASIC. But when companies can't find anyone to help, the pay rate goes higher! Most recently I learned the PureBASIC dialect in order to help out a mid-sized international company. I never heard of PB before, but after two hours of study, I was the expert. I solved some hard problems and showed their in-house developers that they misunderstood internal aspects of PB which would have surfaced as inexplicable down time.
VB6 is used currently to automate many of the world's largest and newest feed mills being built in USA, China and Africa. I did major work on that code, too. The team is timid about converting reliable code to a modern language. I convinced them to use C# for new stuff, at least.

Jamie, I already know you're a VB head. Just let the language die already. :D It had a good run.

David Carroll you gave me a good, hearty chuckle! Thanks
Truly, I am happiest when I have just any opportunity to program, regardless of the platform. From 4-bit to 64-bit; assembler to 4GL -- I love it all!
