A lot of factors can alter the mean. The mental capacity of each person, the extension of the chosen language, the resources that each one utilizes...etc. It is better to start with basics, the foundation, the concepts that every language have: data types, loops, functions, variables, conditionals, algorithm design and that kind of stuff. Once achieved that almost every language will be easy (in theory). Assuming you know all of the above, 4 hours a day everyday, I think maybe 4-5 months and you are ready to go (at least you will be able to stay afloat). If no previous knowledge, maybe a year or so.

Gordon have a point .. we will never done learning. Plus, every language have updates by time to time. But Gordon , try to understand the question and elaborate better your response. I think you are capable of achieve some programming things, don't you? You don't need to be old or almost dying to do stuff. I repeat, one year if no previous knowledge and you are be able to build some cool projects.

To what extent is counted as "learned"? I admire this kid, who applies what he already know to build a very raw game: https://code.sololearn.com/W2oTHhw6lF5A/?ref=app
