How much money you have to spend on a laptop? Also, what are your requirements for it? (need it for gfx/gaming/etc..? or just programming?)

If you're using it for just programming, you can't go wrong with either option. Do you have link to the exact ones you're getting for either? (there is options for each that may make it cost more/less) For me personally, I consider the price, but I also consider its graphical power as well since I work with graphics and games. Inspiron 15 is going to give you good performance for the price, but so would the XPS 15. Give me the exact link for XPS 15 and Inspiron 15 that you're considering; I can tell you based upon those exact specs vs price.

I have an XPS 13 and I couldn't be more happy with it. I went from small laptops (11") to big laptops (17") to small ones again and it turns out I just prefer small, lightweight laptops you can chuck into your bag and not worry about. The XPS 13 is basically an 11" laptop with a 13" screen so if small is your thing too you can't go wrong with it. But at the end of the day it's personal preference, I'm sure the 15" is great. I wouldn't judge the laptops just on processing power because that's not important for most programming tasks (though gamedev is a big exception!) One thing I don't like about the XPS is the keyboard, it's a bit flimsy compared to Lenovo ThinkPads' keyboards. But maybe it's gotten better with newer XPS models. Anyway it doesn't bother me too much.
