There isn't the only „one" language. For game developnent It's sometimes needed to combine languages. Java and OpenGL are working pretty good together. GameMaker Studio is a good environment and C# and DirectX combined in Unity are very strong for 3D Programming.

Every language has his own strength and some weaknesses. If you want to nake Web Apps you can use Phaser.js for gaming. WebGL is good for 3D Web Illustrations.
