Language to learn first...

I was told that if I want to become a game developer or a programmer (software, programs, apps, web) I should start learning 1 programming language and become an expert on it. I have coded in Java Script for a micro:bit project and in blocks for EV3 and Arduino projects. I also know some stuff on GW-BASIC but this is an outdated language right? What should I learn first?

Hi. Well if you want to learn how all works under the hood you can start from C. There is a good Harvard CS50 course for beginners in EDX.

If you thinking about using game engines, unity use c# and unreal use blueprint and c++. Both are strong and well made engines. I agree with dmitriy. You can start with c and choose your engine later. I am also taking Edx course and it is really. Helpful.
