What recommended Specs does my Laptop need for efficient programming?

Hello,
I'll be going to university soon to study IT, I've been told that I'll need a laptop to Programm.
I'll be learning python and Java, and I'll have some group projects e.g. to programm a game etc.

Would 8-16 GB of RAM and a SSD suffice? Do I need to pay attention to anything else?

8 GB RAM, i3 Intel processor and DDR3 is enough for programming.

Minimum 8 GB RAM, i5 processor and DDR4 is sufficient.
Many softwares need high processing which puts heavy load on the processor. So go for those processors which can support the type of software you are going to use.

I3 is a little low(low cost ye but performance to..) i5 is sufficient as chetali Shah post it

Don't use HDD, i lost my two HDD with android studio,
use SSD only.
