When you try to solve computationally difficult problems, and you are facing a time or memory constraint, you will eventually start thinking how you can make your algorighms faster, safer, more efficient. Many problems of intermediate level, on coding challenge websites like codewars.com or projecteuler.net are targeting this efficiency, as they have strict time constraint, but same applies to sololearn. Sometimes a minor change can improve your programs performance 100fold. And with huge amounts of data out there in the real world that needs processing, efficiency is still a key factor, especially in fields like AI / deep learning.
