Yes if you want to hack there is a 3 kinds of hackers 1- black hat Hackers : there main purpose is to make harm, they are illegal and may be go to jail in the last so be careful 2- white hat Hackers : there main purpose is to find bugs and fix it and there job salary is too high 3- Grey hat Hackers : they are mix from white and black So if you want to learn hacking make sure that you are a white hat and have a nice day

James Smit, even though I'm a python lover myself, there are a few disadvantages of it over other languages. refer this site for scoops on disadvantages of python: http://net-informations.com/python/iq/disadvantages.htm and Halandaro, yes, PHP can help you in hacking. see this site for more: https://www.ubuntupit.com/best-programming-language-for-hacking-top-15-reviewed-for-ethical-hacking/

If your target is compatible web server, yes, this can help, but you still might want to learn bash too alongside. But some people may get very angry at you so think twice.

Php can't help you all the time, because it can only be used for server hacking

Not much, but you can slightly hack some web information from the client browser. You can move into python for better opportunities in future.

Probably. Also the server engineer abandoned the project (was for a non profit) and there were 260 updates pending half of which were security updates so maybe that also compromised things

Oh absolutely. There are vulnerable versions of PHP still running websites and the more familiar you are with the language the easier it will be for you to exploit. I don't know how comfortable you already are with cybersecurity topics, but I high recommend you look up Zaid Sabih on Udemy. He has numerous ethical hacking courses that can teach you what you need to know. I did his overarching ethical hacking class and learned how to break into Wi-Fi, ARP and DNS spoof, inject SQL and much more.
