Why does code written in the head show as if written in body?

Question

I unconsciously wrote all the things I needed to code in the body at the head section. I decided to test out whether it will still work and was pleasantly surprised to see that it worked just as it would have if written in the body section. How is that possible? From all I have read, it points to the fact it shouldn't work
