How to use live bitcoin value in a function

Question

Hi all so I am making a bitcoin bot of such and currently have the live bitcoin value in the app which updates every 10 seconds. Now I’d like to be able to use this live number to determine when to buy and sell bitcoins so I thought I’d need to be able to use this number in a function. Firstly is this even possible to use the live number that keeps changing in a function ?
The function would basically activate the buy process when the bitcoin value is a certain number and then another function would do the same but to sell.
Is this possible ? If so or even if not, could some one recommend a solution ?
