Why an operating system always reside on hard disk of pc?

If you have super faster Internet use chrome os.. Is store not in your hdd.

cloud storage will require internet connection all the time when we have to use pc..its not a good thing as many people still can't afford internet all the time

OS controls all the computer resources while it is in use. one can use RAM as the access from the same is much faster. But since RAM is a volatile, as soon as computer is turned off, the data stored it in is lost. So, OS is generally installed and stored in hard disk as it is non-volatile .and hence OS doesn't lose on turn-off the computer.
