I also try to be a video game developer, I am studying C # since I feel that it is a very comfortable language to work with a game engine (I recommend unity) Although there are many more, I hope you can be a game developer if you want!

For the basics you need to learn C++ and Python. And for styles and graphics, you need to learn CSS, JS, and HTML. You can learn Machine Learning and AI's if you want to include an AI into your game. Thanks for your question and happy coding.

If you want to develop game using UNITY game engine, You need to learn C# because unity required C#. And if you want to develop your game using UNREAL ENGINE, You need to learn C++ because unreal engine required C++. And not so clear about other game Engine.

If you are not a fan of coding and would prefer drag and drop kind of development...you can try out scratch. But if you're comfortable with coding then unity(C#) or unreal engine(C++) would be a good choice.

Before diving into programming part of gaming you must be familiar with 3d modelling, basic character animation etc. Game designing involves a lot of homework to do. The theme, characters, scene management...Try learning C/C++ for unreal engine. If you are not familiar with programming it also has blueprint system. But for a starter I prefer unity engine because it is a lot easy to digest. But it uses C#.
