Is it too late for a 30-years-old to start programming, find a related job, and even reach high levels?

Although i started programming just 2 month ago, i fell in love with it. Everyday i regret why I did not have the opportunity to start it sooner, when i was teenage.😔 How can i overcome this feeling? 😔 Isn't it late? [Edited by David Carroll:] Mosi B. Mosi B. no you are not to late and you should be mature enough that others actually seek you out for advice. Yes you may be just getting started but you actually open your ears and pay attention to details. This is however both an openended question as well as a duplicate. Please use searchbar before asking as this may help you find your answer faster and reduce duplicate questions. Thanks and happy coding. https://www.sololearn.com/discuss/1257973/?ref=app https://www.sololearn.com/discuss/1094599/?ref=app https://www.sololearn.com/discuss/209628/?ref=app

KvngJ7 I used to think when I was in my early 20s that my mind and my capacity for learning would slow down with age. I can honestly say that today, on my 45th birthday, my mind is much sharper and faster than when I was in high school, college, or early in my career. Brain plasticity appears to remain the same through adulthood. However, it really depends on whether or not you constantly feed your brain to learn new things or not. Kind of like a... "use it or lose it" concept. 😉 For those interested in how age may or may not effect brain plasticity, here are some excellent articles: https://sharpbrains.com/resources/1-brain-fitness-fundamentals/neuroplasticity-the-potential-for-lifelong-brain-development/#:~:text=This%20new%20paradigm%20contrasts,slow%20down%20the%20aging%20process https://sharpbrains.com/blog/2007/08/22/10-habits-of-highly-effective-brains/ https://sciencing.com/the-relationship-between-age-plasticity-12760666.html https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6128435/

Ore Would you mind elaborating on that? I've not been aware of any official or unofficial trends that indicate a preference of any age ranges for entry level or any level roles. In fact, that would be highly illegal for any company to have any such discriminating preferences like that in the USA. Even as someone who has been at the forefront of many hiring decisions for many levels of development roles, age has never been a consideration for me as it relates to qualifying for a particular level. I've hired exceptionally talented people at younger ages for senior level roles and exceptionally talented older people (career changing) for entry level roles. These are rare because we don't get many people in these demographics for these roles. But the decisions have never been about age - in my personal experiences.

Any language maximum takes 4-6 month easily and with regular practise .and I think You should choose language which is most widely use and master in one language is enough to get a job then company used to sent employees for vocational class if they want more to him .so just target a job choose best language for that master it in few months and you are ready for interview...👍

If it is what you really love doing, you should give it a try and see how far you will get... If you're good at it the oportunities to get a job are varied. I'm in the mid 30's and started studying again last year to get involved in software development, most people there are around my age and will get a job after degree. I'm really in love with it and have no idea where it will might take me to... 😜 Just choose your Weapon and follow your dreams or you might never know... 💫

Age should only be a number but in start-ups or work places with a small number of employees of a certain demographic, it is quite possible that they subconsciously or otherwise discriminate against those who are outside their demographic in the hiring process. This should, however not discourage you. Persistence often pays off.

I just started a new career with a new profession at the age of 34. I never worked in that business before and I had to work a lot. But the fact of being recognized as a motivated and hard working person gave me the chance to be hired in the enterprise I am engaged now. Some people told and showed me that they couldn't imagine I would even finish my apprenticeship. In fact I was one of the best due hard work. So stop worrying being too old. Results are everything you need.

Hello Everyone, Nearly a year ago this month, I started to learn to code but became laser-focused after my dad passed away. I'm 32 years old and want to offer these words of encouragement. It is never too late to care about learning to program. I have a friend who is an IT director, in his fifties, and he is continuing to learn new programming concepts. Just focus on the concepts, basics, and network. Getting a job will take time, but it will be well worth it. Here is an article that I found last year that I've posted to my house wall. https://www.freecodecamp.org/news/stories-from-300-developers-who-got-their-first-tech-job-in-their-30s-40s-and-50s-64306eb6bb27/

Of course not. The clients are interested in someone knowing his job well and deliver a premium result, they don't care about your age, your color, your sex, your way of eating. They pay you for a job. And to be paid well, you have to be the best. That means a lot of effort, time, practice, but eventually will open new doors for your career and your living. There's no age for this decision of your life. The best time to make the step is only NOW. Good luck, all my blessings with you! I took the same path at the same age as you, and never regretted it a day! It's been some years now 😁😂

David Carroll Even though it is wrong, age discrimination is still very much prevalent everywhere. It is a good thing you don't partake in it or experience it but it happens everywhere even in the US according to this report https://builtin.com/diversity-inclusion/ageism-in-the-workplace In a country like Nigeria, the rates of age discrimination are even much higher and it is reportedly difficult for people > 30 to get jobs if they do not have previous work experience. That is why I said the OP should make more research about his/her locality.

Myself, I have always been into tech, and looked at with interest but never studied any coding. I am now 47, and loving the learning process. Like you, wishing I had started sooner, but it is definitely not age restricted. If you want to learn, you WILL learn, and we are all here to help. Happy SoloLearning
