I understand the sentiment expressed here. I assume though that the thinking by Sololearn is that if somebody has an aggressive comment, people should be able to downvote it without getting into direct contact with the aggressive poster (who might want revenge for getting the downvote). Now, of course, people take advantage of that and maybe often downvote for no good reason. But an anonymous downvote is still less damaging than having some aggressive person's attacks directed specificaly against you (because of downvoting their aggressive comment). I guess they could go the Twitter way, and only have upvotes (with an option to report or block the aggressive poster, but that's probably more complicated to manage for the platform). Or maybe they could block accounts who do excessive downvoating? Or let's say, everyone only gets a certain limited number of downvotes per month, so they only get used on important things, and not out of spite... đŸ€·â€â™€ïž
