Microcontroler selection

I'd like to create digital clock using microcontroler, which would be best one? I would like some 8 bit with 8 in/out pins, clock pin, Vin/out Thanks for any opinion except negative ones about creating own clock :D

I have Arduino, so I gues creating some simple instruction inserter should not be problem... it's just it has to be bug type chip, but I gues that if no asm version will be possible, than doing it numericaly is possibility too, so programming is not problem

That's true, but I want to create really simple clock using some really cheap chip, like up to 2€, So Arduino Is not what I would call cheap... I gues with Quartz oscillator it should be 4€ and display... Propably from old calculator... I were thinking about PIC some version... But I'm not really sure about them, since they have just 8 pins for instance PIC12F508-I/P
