Difference between variance , unit variance and standard deviation

var = (standard dev)*(standard dev)
unit variance is a standardized variance

Unit variance is 1, therefore unit standard deviation is sqrt(unit variance) = 1.
When you z-transform (standardize) a variable X that is normal distributed, it will have an expected value ("mean") of 0 and a variance of 1 (unit variance).
