you have your <ol> inside your <ul>, so ul.appendChild(li) on <ol> will put <li> AFTER the still child <ol>...

to 'prepend' <li> you should use:

ul.insertBefore(li,ul.firstChild);

... if there's no childs, element is inserted as first child ^^
