Is programmer's life boring as a lot of people say?

I'm a college student who wants to be a programmer I study computer information systems btw... A friend of mine told me not to do so... so i was wondering is programmer's life boring?

I am not aware that this is a common perception regarding programmers in the eyes of laymen. I am personally having too much fun in programming to care. :>
