How do the challenges work? If I lose to someone will my xp be deducted and given to that person?

If you are playing someone with higher language experience, then you may be offered up to 32 XP points for a win.
If you lose against them, thn you will only lose 1XP, but will gain 1XP for each correct answer.
This means that if you are low level playing against high level, you will only lose XP if you get 0 answers correct.
If you are high level playing against low level, then you may only be offered 2XP + 1XP for each correct answer.
But if a high level loses to a low level, then 32XP will be deducted

Yes, it will be deducted but it won't be given to your opponent like you see in result page.

That's harsh.

Not harsh, but realistic
A high level should have greater knowledge than a low level, thus a higher chance of winning.
The flaw in the system is you get people with previous learning starting the challenges, or cheaters who create multiple accounts
