Sure, as there are ton of data captured while observing the universe. But you should know data science is usually a small dish in the sense of physicist, they could handle the job by themselves in most case.

If you are really interested in Physics, why don't you study in the Physics or Engineering field first? In case if you can find a job in the field of Physics by CS background, most likely you are tailor making application for them such as some kind of controller using in lab. Or may be…building hardware infrastructure such as networking for their usage.

You need to define the meaning of computational physics first. You can apply physics in CS field, for example: CPU manufacturing, RF modulation. Vice versa, apply CS in every science field, such as database maintenance, but here are only minor relationship with physics. Imagine you are a data scientist working in a observatory, you are responsible for making record of light spectrum with respect to the time and space frame, but you might not know what you are dealing with and also the target that those physicist want to achieve, you are just working like an accountant for science data.

It depends on your role in the company, a PhD is not a guarantee for job hunting.

First understand what's data science actually do with that kind of fields of study, Surely there is a lot of data sets are available about the astronomy so that data would require a depth study and that place needs a Data Scientist as well so yes, Definitely The Data Science helps a lot to understand the astronomical situations.

First 4-years in CSE and then, 3-years for masters in physics and then, 2-yeras for PHD in physics, is this what should I do in order to become a computational physicist???
