Updating Android?

Question

I want to update my Android KitKat 4.4 to Android 5.0... He always says that my device is incompatible with 5.0. Is there any solutions for my device... It is not rooted(does it matter?). Thanks

if the official update is not available you can try a custom ROM like CyanogenMod.
you will need to root your device in that case and you will definitely lose your data.

There's no instance in my life wherein official OTA update is successful. I always opt for custom roms.
