Should I study Ruby or JS+php?

What is the best option?

The real question is to choose between Ruby or Php ( or any other server side language, including JS ), as you probably need to study JS for user side ( scripting in Html only provide JS to make dynamic pages and/or web app' )... My personnal preference comes to Python, but you can also look at non ( or less ) interpreted languages as Java ^^ Php is the historical solution, so it's widely supported by web hosters, even if this should be the past now, and have a lot of ressources and community able to help you... It's almost a non exclusive develloping choice :P

I think you want to develop a website, so you ask this question, right? My opinion is that you can learn both because js +php is easy to learn but hard to maintain if the project is large. Ruby has RoR to use scaffold to create runnable project soon but hard to learn, the road is really creep.

I think they are both similar and it comes down to prefrence. Php is faster and easier to learn. Ruby on rails has a large commuinty with lots of support, stable, easier to maintain on a larger scale but much much harder to learn
