Changing My Blog URL - Please Help
I have a blog with the year in the URL like this: https://www.companysights.com/resources/workforce-reduction-guide-the-best-practices-to-reduceheadcount-in-2024 I want to update it so the year is no longer in the URL for future years. I have read that I can do a temporary or permanent redirect. I think that I should do the permanent redirect but will this impact my existing traffic?

Joel Lister-Barker* are you referring to canonically redirecting / 301 redirect to a new url ?
Using Permanent Redirects (301 redirects):
Yes, using a permanent redirect (301) is the best option. This tells search engines and users that the content has permanently moved to a new location.
There is 》Minimal Impact on Traffic: While there might be a slight dip initially, search engines will eventually recognize the redirect and update their records. You shouldn't experience a significant traffic loss in the long run.
