Someone Completely depends on what sort of programs you want to write and on what platform.
For webpages, browser games - HTML, CSS, Javascript, Python
For iOS mobile apps - Swift
For Android mobile apps - Kotlin, Java
For many 3D game engines - C++, C#
AI and machine learning, data analysis, scripting within business software - Python

The most used coding language is python, but the best is what you think is the best, I would rexommend trying out a bunch of new languages before finding your favorite one

Zvi the forum and the code playground are really goldmines of knowledge. It's wonderful to keep coming back and searching for almost anything and finding a treasure of resources, opinions and thought.

Ausgrindtube thanks for digging up that thread about AI from 6 years ago. I didn’t know that people were talking about then (besides for Elon Musk who was being ridiculed for his comments at the time). Looking at the thread now is so cool to look back and see how people were talking about the future!

you can built any thing whit any language .so its not true to say which one is better! i think the best language is the language you learned completely and able to do that you want.

Depends on what you're doing. If you're just getting started with coding I'd suggest learning Python first. It gives you a good grasp of important topics and makes learning other more complicated languages easier. The best approach (in my opinion) is to stick with one language at a time to garner an in-depth understanding of it that way you can start your own projects. I'd also look into getting a code editor like Visual Studio Code and learning how to use that.
Here's a semi-accurate breakdown of coding languages:
HTML is not a coding language it's a markup language but it's essential for web development
Python (a general purpose language) data analysis, machine learning, web development, scripting
JavaScript: front-end web development, mobile applications development
C++: Game development
C#(C-sharp): game development, enterprise applications (similar to java with a microsoft focus)

Shardis Wolfe Python isnt the only language used for business, rather C++ is more used for programs for businesses

Bharat Bhushan it’s unusual to learn those three topics together, maybe you meant javascript instead of java?
