How to display breadcrumb header image in Laravel 5.4.24

Question

I placed my assets folder in the public directory ( where it can be accessed publicly) and in my CSS file in the assets folder I have a code like :

#heading-breadcrumbs {
background:url ('img/banner.jpg')
}

the link seems to work because it produced

http://siterev.dev/assets/img/banner.jpg .
but the problem is thst it is not loading the image and it is also showing 404 error in network monitor mode of my browser.
Any ideas or solution is welcome...

background:src(path to image);

cannot be the solution because to load an image in a CSS file, you need to use :

background:url(path to image);

otherwise CSS will not understand what you mean but thanks for response.

im not sure but try as "url" "src"

this should work

background-image: {{ URL::to ('assets/img/banner.jpg') }}
