How can I build a smart robot?

What will I need for it's navigation and perception?
Is AI somethng that I shud be considering?
How do I start with it?
What do I need to learn to program a robot for tracing a path ,patter recognition ,trajectory follower etc??

A robot capable of perceiving the environment, needs sensors, the most common for movement are the ultrasonic and infrared sensors in addition to being very cheap.
For the location it is common to use bluetooth and wifi modules.
Also in the construction of a robot many branches are involved, mechanics, electronics, computational science, physics, etc.
There is no single way to achieve it, it depends on how you use your creativity.
The AI is something advanced for the construction of your first robot, only with a program that can control motors and capture what your sensors are detecting is good to start.
