What actually determines the number of upvotes stuff gets?

I know people (like me) aim for badges. And there are badges for each milestone upvote, whether for code or post.
The question is, how does it get that much upvotes? If anyone notices any pattetn pleas share.
My hypothesis is that the more the Sololearn celebs are involved, the more upvotes it gets. Is it true?

Personal popularity affects as much as content quality. I'd give it a 50 : 50. That said, I still hope people upvote my stuff because they actually agree, and not simply because I wrote it. I may be wrong at times, this is why downvotes are also necessary.

I think these racing for badges affects badly on app's quality

We have so many needless discussions, not related to programming and CS and valuable information is lost among them.

Like I always say, anything can 'click'! There is no fixed marketing strategy or pattern as such. But end of the day, content is the king! No amount of publicity or celebrity sponsorship will help if you have poor content.😊
