Python as script or language.

Question

I have been working in Python for 3 years now. Earlier worked on Java EE. jumping from java to python was easy as python is easy to understand language but at the same time changing mind from java coding style to python is a bit difficult.
However in few interviews I faced a very strange question like would you be able to work on Java and python as scripting language. I am bit confuse whether leaving java was a bad discussion or good to get new language.

learning a new language can have its own benefits. my question why did you learn python & drop Java ?
