And 5 years later we're still at the same point, without any notification on the web page.

I am not a programmer/developer.
Desktop is needed for the programmer/developer but not for users who are going to use app or website and btw nowadays developers are developing mobile app more than desktop app/website because of demands of mobile app.
I just saw that Bonsai answered here so I answered too.

Today's world is mobile app world so why people would love to work on website.
If more than 90% users are Mobile users then why people will give time to implement something on web.

Yes programming is best for programmer but not for that people who don't work on it.
For example: we have a website and everything is there but still our clients says give that option in Mobile App means they can work anywhere on Mobile. They don't want to work on desktop. So if users don't want to work on desktop then why we would love to work on website why not only on Mobile app.
Today Mobile app demands is higher than Desktop app/website.
And I think for notification kind of things waste of time to develop on website.

A͢J Are your clients programmers or developers? I thought this was a app for programmers and developers or would be pro/dev? It would be convenient to have notification in the app and website. Desktop is where programmers and developers spend most of their time. Of perhaps that's no longer the case? Mobile is okay, but there are still too many limitations. Are you saying desktop is no longer needed in the programming world? As a Web developer I design websites that work the same across all devices and browsers. Its not a waste to have features. There is a rising demand for PWA's. PWA provides a full-screen experience with push notifications capabilities just like any regularly installed app on a mobile device. If there is no need for desktop then why is PWA having such high growth?. I'm just curious.
