Depends upon you. Some people can read something, and have no idea what they read. Some people can read something, and they're already off doing something with it.

It's simply relative upon the individual as to what extent they learn something or not. Just read through Java, play around with it, seek other resources, and keep learning.

You sort of the know what a professional knows but the basics of it as you can do more with the basics to make you more of an expert if that makes sense.
