Refering a local link

Question

How come i cant use "../"to refer a local file? I went into a folder called "about me" then i used ../ to move to desktop which is where my file i want to refer is so it goes like "<a href="../aboutme.html"> blah blah </a>

Unless your source folder is on desktop. ../ is preferring to one level up parent folder, not desktop folder.
