I would say yes, Java the language syntax is fairly easy to learn but mastery of Java requires learning it's different variations and frameworks and that can be a lot at first.

Well, I guess I'd be lying to tell you it's easy, but I think, as hard as it can be, it shouldn't stop you from learning. It's a great language to learn, plus, this community has plenty of good Java coder, and I guess they are keen to help new learners.
