I mean some markup validation services may show you that your HTML page has errors and it doesn't meet standards.

There's no difference. Except </br> isn't valid, but it works.

Both are invalid in Html5 ^^ The only valid syntax is <br> without any slash/backslash... However, both are work because permissivity of Html, so browsers are mandatory to display html code as well as they can, even if invalid, so do auto-correct invalid code... In some case as this one, the correction is trivial, so that's not a great problem... but as said by @Igor, validating tools will not validate your page, and search engine will probaly downrank your page/site, as contrarly to browsers, they are not mandatory to try to correct and understand your code even if it's invalid ;P
